EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING
Monday, October 29, 2019

Board Chairman Daniel Perkins called the Executive Committee Meeting to order
at 12 noon in the offices of the CVB.
ITEM 1: EXCUSED ABSENCES: Jason Bryant, Vice-Chairman
ITEM II: APPROVAL OF EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MINUTES: -Daniel
Perkins

unanimously accepted to approve the August 27, 2019 Executive
Committee minutes.\]
ITEM III: OTHER BUSINESS-
Kim Hufham presented the “scorecard” that incorporates the NHC
TDA Strategic Plan.
{The “Scorecard” will be placed in the Exhibit Book XIII for
reference}
Discussion between Nicolas and Kim about the importance of the
“scorecard” as a living document to keep future board members
updated on the Strategic Plan in the years 1-3. The Executive Board
members requests that the scorecard be expanded to include the 3-
year period.

Year 1:
In the area of Facilitate Impactful Destination: Kim & Connie
attended SEA-Tech High School grand opening- career
pathways at the technical high school
October Board meeting bringing in Arrivalist for a
presentation.
January 2020- bring in a company to conduct a board
development workshop
Year 2’s Action plan hasn’t been developed, yet.
ITEM IV: REVIEW OF AUDIT FOR FY 2018-2019 – Lisa Wurtzbacher
Authority Finance Officer Lisa Wurtzbacher reviewed the letter
which the CPAs of Cherry Bekaert had sent to the Executive
Committee. It was reported all transactions have been recognized in
the financial statements in the proper period. No significant
difficulties in completing the audit were encountered; no
misstatements were noted during the audit. The audit firm was
pleased to report there were no disagreements with management
during the course of the audit. It was reported that everything had
been recorded correctly.
In the basic financial statement ending for the year June 30, 2019,
Lisa reviewed financial highlights, overview of financial statements as
well as government wide and fund financial statements. One really
important issue that was reported was that our fund balance has built
back up. A budget amendment will be presented at the full TDA
Board meeting. We have had a very good year.
ITEM V: OTHER BUSINESS- New Hanover School Board to change the start
date of the upcoming school year. Kim met with the Nelson B, the
Chairman of the Calendar Committee.
Kim’s updates the Executive Board on the actions of the New
Hanover County Board of Education in wanting to change the school
start date to August 11. Kim has been in contact with the state
lobbyists to get guidance how to proceed.
To ask the NHC TDA Board to adopt a Resolution in support of
keeping the School Calendar start date at August 25.
Daniel and Nicolas both attended the Wilmington Chamber of
Commerce board meeting. The Chamber chose not to adopt a
resolution.

Nicolas and the Wrightsville Beach Chamber of Commerce. The main
reason to meet is to ask to be a part of the conversation. Tourism and
ROT will be affected by the loss of August.
To table the vote until the December NHC Board of Education
meeting
