MEETING MINUTES
December 11, 2025

Meeting was called to order at 4:06 by Nadira Nash.

New Members were welcomed
Guest:
Commissioners discussed with Josh Bailey (Social Studies curriculum specialist, K-12 schools at NHCS)
different avenues for forging a relationship with the school system. Suggestions were:
1) Inventors Expo (Freeman School of Engineering possible location)
2) Genealogy project
3) Career Days
4)Reading Buddies Program
5) Volunteer at schools, Gregory and Williston were mentioned specifically

6) Participate in History Day (March 14)
7) Participate in National History Day School Competition as a Judge (Jan 9, 2026)
Joshua requested a dossier of all Commissioners careers and interests in order to plug our commission
and/or individual members into appropriate activities.
Unfinished Business:

Discussed Annual Banquet – Date has been set for Feb 20from 6-8pm at Daniels Hall, Cape Fear
Community College. Webos will cater. Menu was decided upon. Ticket price was set. Commissioners
decided that a flyer should be made in the very near future to allow us to begin advertising. 3 Honorees
were discussed. 1 honoree had been decided on at the November meeting, 2 at this meeting.
Discussed that Cristine Ingram at New Hanover Library system told Nadira that she would have one of
her staff to reach out to her for possible collaboration.
National Day of Racial Healing – Discussed what was needed to request consideration of NHC
Commissioners approving the commissions proclamation for January 20, 2026. Members decided that we
needed a save the date flyer in order to invite others to the event.
