MEETING MINUTES
October 9, 2025

Meeting was called to order at 4:06 by Nadira Nash.
Agenda Approval – Approved by Bernadette; Seconded by Nadira.
Minutes Approval- Approved by Sunni; Seconded by Bernadette
Unfinished Business:
Discussed recording meetings (voice only) but vote held because there was not yet a quorum. Will return
to it 11-13-2025
Discussed sponsoring local events. Cameron Art Museum has been contacted. Jan Davidson welcomes
the Commission to partner with Cape Fear Museum.

Discussed Annual Banquet – Date has been set for Feb 20at Daniels Hall.
Pine forest cemetery grounds upkeep –Discussed and suggested that the New Hanover Garden Club and
County Parks and Recreations be reached out to, in order to get additional recommendations. Discussed
and decided to highlight Pine Forest Cemetery at our annual banquet. Info given on 1898 event occurring

at Pine Forest Cemetery on Veterans Day Nov. 11.
New Business:
Discussed 1898 Museum…it’s progress, exhibits
Discussed how our Commission’s rack cards could be used
Suggestion was made to create a timeline of events which happened before 1898 for educational
purposes.
Began discussion on National Day of Racial Healing proclamation, possible events and reaching out to all
NHC areas. Will revisit at next month’s meeting
Announcements:
Please remember to sign up for the Ukrainian Christmas event to represent our Commission at our table
Calendar has been emailed with all 1898 events. Please attend.
