Carolina Beach Inlet Maintenance Dredging
•Merritt worked from June 17th to July 9th
•Moved 39,745cy per Captain’s Logs
•USCG hoping to relocate buoys by end of the month
•USACE aiming for late September/early October Merritt event
USACE Survey
7/31, 8/5-8/6
Notes/Discussion: One of the longer Merritt events on the east coast since October 2024. USCG Oak Island Aid to Navigation Team
has a vessel in the shipyard being retrofitted to be able to relocate the heavier #1 and #2 buoys as needed in the future. Dredge Murden is
still expected to be back in service this fall but is scheduled out until the end of the year. Discussion around how a hopper dredge would
lose effectiveness until the dredge material management site within the inlet is emptied anyway.

6/9 Pre Dredge
Survey

Current Survey
Notes/Discussion: Discussion around the inlet borrow area for CSRM projects effects the inlet and how
management of the inlet benefits from an empty inlet borrow area.
•Town of Kure Beach upgrading outfalls
•Met with Town and USACE to sync up
•Schedule will be passed along once available
Carolina Beach and Kure Beach FY26 Coastal Storm Risk Management (CSRM)
Looking N from Golden
Sands in CB
Looking S from the
southern end of CB’s
rock revetment
Notes/Discussion: Meeting with Town of Kure Beach shows the positive federal/local partnership involved to make sure these CSRM
projects run smoothly. Jay Healy asked if the USACE would be willing to host a community meeting prior to the project start, like they have
done previously. The USACE indicated in the meeting with the Town of Kure Beach that they are willing to have a community meeting and
provide the project progress tracker like past projects.
