Box 440 Wrightsville Beach, NC 28480 Re: Letter of Support for Updating the 2016 Beach & Inlet Management Plan (BIMP) Dear Ms. Riely and Whom it May Concern, The Wilmington -New Hanover County Port, Waterway, and Beach Commission (PWBC) understands the importance of the North Carolina Beach & Inlet Management Plan (BIMP), which was originally funded via House Bill 1840 and completed in 2009, and then updated in 2016. The BIMP provides necessary scientific and socio-economic data of North Carolina beaches, inlets, and management strategies. North Carolina coastal communities have grown tremendously since the last update to the BIMP in 2016. A regularly updated BIMP would provide a common resource for continued coastal community stakeholder discussion that would continue to help guide decision making of the State's 326 miles of ocean shoreline, barrier islands, and 19 active inlet complexes that collectively generate over $4+ billion in annual revenue. The Wilmington -New Hanover County PWBC, and its members, strongly support an update to the BIMP in order to further enhance stakeholder discussion and decision -making regarding North Carolina coastal communities. In grateful appreciation, Dennis Barbour, Chair, PWBC Cc: New Hanover County Board of Commissioners PWBC Chris Coudriet, County Manager
