SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS & PRECAUTIONS When using two or more suction fittings on a common suction line, suctions must be separated by a minimum of 3 ft or they must be located on two different planes. WARNING: DO NOT locate suction outlets on seating areas or on backrests for such seating areas. Attention Installer: This manual contains important information about the installation, operation and safe use of this product. Before installing this product, read and follow all warning notices and instructions which are included. This information should be given to the owner and/or operator of this equipment. To reduce the risk of drowning from hair and body entrapment, install suction fittings with a marked flow rate in gallons per minute that exceeds the flow rate of your system by at least 25%. Always use multiple suction outlets. If the fitting/cover breaks, is damaged, or is missing, shut the system down immediately. Do not use the system until damaged parts have been replaced. Keep hair and clothing a minimum of 12 inches from all suction fittings and drains at all times. Persons with long hair should secure hair to a minimal length or wear swimming cap. Children should never be left unattended at any time in a swimming pool, spa, or bathtub. Be sure the temperature of the water never exceeds the manufacturer’s recommendations. To reduce the risk of injury, installation and service should be done by a qualified Service Professional, certified electrician or authorized CMP representative. NOTE: In the event that one suction outlet is completely blocked, the remaining suction outlet(s) serving that system MUST have a flow rating capable of the full flow of the pump(s) for the specific suction system. Increasing size of the pump may increase flow rate of suction beyond rated safety limits causing entrapment or death. All Suction Outlet Fitting Assemblies (SOFAs) shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s installation instructions, or for Registered Design Professional SOFAs, in accordance with the registered design professional’s engineering plans. Field modification made to a SOFA not authorized by the manufacturer’s installation instructions shall void the SOFA certification. Hair or body parts blocking the spa or pool suctions may become trapped and held against the suction fitting. Entrapment against the suction fittings can result in drowning or other severe injury. Never sit on or lean up against suction fittings. Never exceed the maximum allowable flow rate stated on the suction fitting. The suction fitting and fasteners should be inspected for damage or tampering before use. Missing, broken, or cracked suction fittings shall be replaced. Loose suction fittings shall be reattached or replaced before use of this facility. The maximum hose length difference between any self-contained SOFA and the tee leading to the pump shall not exceed 13 feet (3.96 m). CMP drain covers are only certified for use with CMP wall fittings and frames. Do not mismatch with parts from other manufacturers. WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING NOTICE NOTICE NOTICE NOTICE NOTICE NOTICE NOTICE SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS When installing and using this equipment, basic safety precautions shall always be followed, including the following: IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS. READ, UNDERSTAND AND FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS. ALWAYS PLUMB AND INSTALL ALL SUCTION FITTINGS ACCORDING TO ALL BUILDING CODES THAT APPLY IN YOUR AREA. 4 B. SIZING & SPECIFICATION REFERENCE • Suction fitting configuration specific flow ratings MUST NOT be exceeded at any time the pool is open to bathers. • A system must install a suction fitting, or combination of multiple suctions, such that the resulting individual suction system flow rating is greater than the pumping system’s maximum system flow rate. • To reduce the risk of drowning from hair and body entrapment, install suction fittings with a marked flow rate in gallons per minute that exceeds the flow rate of your system by at least 25%. Increasing size of the pump may increase flow rate of suction beyond rated safety limits causing entrapment or death. • Any modification that increases the flow rate of the circulation system shall require reevaluation of the cover/grate and wall fitting to ensure that the flow rating of the Suction Outlet Fitting Assembly is not exceeded. • The flow rating for pools with multiple, blockable SOFAs piped together in one body of water without isolation valves shall be determined by combining the flow rating of all SOFAs, minus the flow rating of one. If the flow ratings of all SOFAs are not equal, subtract the flow rating of the SOFA with the highest flow rating. • NOTICE: No modification shall be made to a SOFA structure or flow path unless the new configuration has been certified as a new SOFA. This suction fitting is designed for installation on the floor or wall of fiberglass hot tubs or pools. b. Do not mount directly under seats. c. Always use multiple suction outlets. DO NOT use with single drain applications. Use with single drain applications will void any and all warranties. Single drain installation increases the risk of entrapment against the suction fittings , which can result in drowning or other severe injury. Blockable SOFAs shall be installed in a multiple SOFA system only. d. When using two or more suction fittings on a common suction line, suctions must be separated by a minimum of 3 ft or they must be located on two different planes. SAFETY CHECKLIST: e. Suction fitting and fasteners should be observed for damage or tampering before each use. f. DO NOT adapt suction fitting to any pipe size smaller than ASTM 2” SCH 40 PVC. g. Missing, broken, or cracked suction fittings shall be replaced before use. Loose suction fittings shall be reattached or replaced before use. 3. INSTALLATION PROCEDURE a. Make sure mounting surface is level/flat. The suction cover and fitting must sit flush with the mounting surface to prevent any gaps between the cover and the wall. Gaps between the cover and the wall may cause hair entrapment. b. Using a hole saw, cut/drill a 3 inch installation hole. (The suction wall fitting is 2.85 inch diameter.) c. The gasket must be installed on the inside surface of the pool/spa. Make sure the sealing and mounting surfaces are smooth and flat to provide for a good seal and increase safety. d. Before installing the fitting through the mounting hole, apply a small amount of silicone to flange and threads to act as a lubricant when thightening. This will help seal the wall fitting and nut tight against the pool/spa wall. e. Install the fitting in the hole and tighten the nut. Using torque wrench, torque nut to <44.0 ft. lbs. (60Nm). Do NOT over- tighten. If installing vertically, screw holes should sit at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o-clock. f. To install the cover, align screw holes on the fitting with those on the lid. Slide cover all the way onto the fitting. g. Attach cover/grate with the supplied screws. Verify that the suction cover is properly tightened with the #8 316 stainless steel screw in brass inserts to 12in-lbs. DO NOT over-torque the cover screw. Excessive torque can cause premature failure of threads or damage to suction fitting increasing risk of entrapment. DO NOT USE POWER TOOLS TO INSTALL FASTENERS. h. When any SOFA component is held in place by the interior finish of the pool, that surface shall be free of deterioration and voids. SOFA components and fastener receptacles shall be clean and free of debris or obstructions during installation of cover/grate and fasteners. The use of adhesives or other attachment methods that prevent access to suction piping or SOFA components requiring periodic servicing is prohibited. Hand‐check cover/grate for snugness to the wall fitting after installation. NOTE: If silicone is used on fitting, verify that silicone is compatible with ABS and PVC plastics. C. The Blu-Sentinel controller is designed to provide the very basic required controls for chemical balance to keep the water blue and safe for bathers. It includes the safety features to prevent chemical feed without sample water flow and adjustable chemical overfeed lockout. The Blu-Sentinel controller utilizes the Strantrol® system‘s High Resolution Redox® sensors that has been the standard for measuring the work value of disinfectants in pools and spas for 50 years. The HRR® sensor measures the rate of oxidation in pool water regardless of the pH, temperature or bather load, feeding only the amount chemicals needed. Likewise, the Strantrol pH sensor utilized with this controller has a reputation for durability and accuracy ensuring precise pH control via the available on/off or time based proportional feed settings. The controller responds continuously to actual pool conditions with precise chemical dosages resulting in pool water that is clear, non-irritating and safe. Our specially designed, slip-resistant material provides one of the most sure footed surfaces available for pool use. Zero depth areas, wading pools, steps, gutters, aquatic playgrounds and other wet areas where added security is required are ideal areas to put our embossed slip- resistant material to the test. Added Slip Resistant Safety A one-piece, watertight, flexible lining within the pool shell, Natatec is perfectly suited to renovation applications. Virtually any pool, no matter how old or deteriorated, may be successfully renovated with a PVC lining system. Moving expansion joints, cracks, spalling concrete, peeling paint and even structural movement are problems of the past with Natatec. Our system responds well to the problems commonly associated with aluminum and other metal pools. Corrosion, pitting, staining, and coating failures are quickly forgotten. No matter what the structure, the Natatec system provides protection and extends pool life. Our impervious lining isolates the pool structure from damaging pool water. New Solutions to Old Pool Problems Before Natatec After Natatec No paint to peel, fi berglass to fail or plaster to crack! Natatec is the system that revolutionized the renovation and construction of swimming pools and water features. Never paint, plaster, fiberglass or tile again! Before the liner we would have to fill up our pool several times a year because we had a lot of leakage. We have only filled our pool one time this year. I have absolutely no complaints.” Marlon Sams Corbin Recreation Center Corbin, Kentucky “Prior to Natatec, our biggest problem was leakage around the seam between the pool and gutter system. The Natatec liner has completely eliminated the leakage around that seam. We’ve been very pleased with its performance.” John Haley Recreation Center Pool Dalton, Georgia “The Natatec liner far exceeds the rubber surfacing we were using on our play pads in the past. Parents love it—we haven’t heard anything but rave reviews.” Jason Horsley City of Hialeah Hialeah, Florida “We have a 25-year-old pool that was leaking and chipping, among other problems. Natatec makes the pool look like new. It’s much easier to clean and makes the pool overall so much nicer. I’ve been very pleased.” Dick Schmerr Hamilton West YMCA Hamilton, Ohio More than 25 years of product research, innovative design and custom fabrication have given us the reputation of being a leader in the international aquatics marketplace.
