Extension Q1 Program Update
SAC Update - Bill Walsh NC CEAC
1. SAC Zoom meeting on 5/14
2. Hiring of New Statewide Extension Director/Associate in NC
3. Regional SAC Nomination
4. Advocacy in Action, late Spring issue
The NC CEAC met last week, discussed a new bill in the Senate that proposes ⅓ budget cut, $24 million
in NC for digital equity inclusion. None of these funds apply to NHC positions. There is zero federal
funding on any NHC salaries/positions, some programs get the funding. 94% of NHC CE funding goes to
salaries.
Bill Walsh recommends that local NHC CEAC members attend county commissioners meetings so that
they know who we are. Bill Walsh leaves his position effective July 1, 2025. Dave Spencer will take over
the position.
Quarter 1 presentation highlights great work done in NHC CE from all departments: Master Gardeners -
Horticulture Agents (Gaberilla & Buddy), Family & Consumer Sciences (Morgan King), 4-H Programs (Alex
Eaker), Stormwater & Natural Resources (Amber Ellis), Grounds highlights, and Communication & Social
Media. Discussion about programming agents creating a presentation or compiling success stories for
NHC CEAC to share with county commissioners. Discussion about sending email(s) to county
commissioners or local news.
Administrative - CED - other positions: backfill for Alex, Friends Business Supporter
