Landscape Plan General Notes
1. All landscaping shall be installed in accordance with New Hanover County Unified
Development Ordinance (UDO) Section 5.4 and these approved plans.
2. Street yard landscaping is provided in accordance with UDO Section 5.4.6 at a rate of
one canopy tree and six shrubs per 600 square feet of required street yard area.
3. A continuous landscape screen is provided along all street frontages where parking is
located within 50 feet of the right-of-way, consisting of shrubs planted to achieve a
minimum height of 3 feet at maturity.
4. Shrubs shall be planted at 3 to 5 feet on center to form a continuous hedge unless
otherwise noted.
5. All required trees shall be canopy (shade) trees unless otherwise approved. Understory
trees may be substituted where overhead utility conflicts exist.
6. Plant sizes at installation shall be:
7. Canopy trees: minimum 2-inch caliper.
8. Understory trees: minimum 1.5-inch caliper.
9. Shrubs: minimum 12 inches in height.
10. Interior parking lot landscaping is provided at a minimum of 8% of total vehicular use
area, with one tree per 144 square feet of landscaped area, in accordance with UDO
Section 5.4.5.C.
11. Landscape areas include all planting islands and strips and exclude buildings, sidewalks,
and vehicular pavement.
12. Existing trees designated to remain (when applicable) shall be protected during
construction in accordance with UDO requirements.
13. All landscaped areas shall be provided with an automatic irrigation system or
equivalent method to ensure plant survival.
14. All landscaping shall be maintained in a healthy and viable condition. Dead or unhealthy
plant material shall be replaced in kind.
15. Landscaping shall not obstruct required sight visibility triangles at driveways and
intersections.
16. Plant locations may be adjusted in the field to avoid conflicts with utilities, provided
overall quantities and design intent are maintained.
17. Secondary street frontage landscaping has been reduced in accordance with UDO
Section 5.4.6.E.
