Attendees: Audrey Marshall, Ombudsman for Brunswick and Columbus Counties,
Patricia Sacchetti, Ombudsman- in-training, Janet Lochlear, Tom Jennings, Woody
Sutton, Mary Busbee, Sandra Oglesby, Martha Stein, Lorraine McEvoy-Schreiber, Oliver

Meeting was called to order by Audrey Marshall.
Each member introduced themselves to the group and told of their length of service.
Minutes were read by Mary Busbee and approved with corrections noted.
Audrey Marshall presented information regarding the Patient Safety and Abuse
Prevention Act recently introduced in the Senate and about the issue of mentally ill
patients sharing nursing home space with the elderly from a report of the National LTC
Ombudsman Resource Center
Upcoming Community events: 1. 6th A ual Caregiver Education Conference planned for
April 30,2009 (brochure provided); 2.the movie/book, "The Soloist", about a homeless,
mentally ill person with great talent(details to be e-mailed each member by Mary
Busbee).
Audrey Marshall asked for topics for future meetings. Suggestions included: Star rating
system and how to know when facilities are rated, facility emergency preparedness,
pilfering in facilities, general safety and security, and what is plan for use of jail bought
by Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Queen as suggested guest speaker.
Audrey Marshall to check if committees might know of any incidents in facilities before
their quarterly visits. Discussed concern re: bedrails used as enablers,menus not being
followed and low census of some facilities when mentally ill lack places to go.
Visitation reports were given by committee members.
The next meeting date is July 1, 1009, 9:30 am in the COG Conference Room.
Tentative dates for facility visitation: Mary's team: April 28; Lorraine's team June 8;
Tom's team May 4, May 12 or May 13
