Risk Mgmt Advisory Committee Mtg 05-25-2011 (2) MEETING MINUTES: New Hanover County Attorney’s Office – Risk Management BUSINESS: Review and discuss the renewals for New Hanover County, New Hanover County Airport, New Hanover County Board of Education, and Southeastern Center for Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities & Substance Abuse Services. TIME AND PLACE: May 25, 2011, 9:00 a.m. New Hanover County Government Center Finance Room # 500 230 Government Center Wilmington, NC ATTENDANCE: Committee members and staff in attendance: Committee Members Absent: Richard Beebee Walker Taylor, IV Tiffany Allen – Risk Manager Deborah Watts Jennifer Stancil – Risk Management Specialist Ron Woodruff Robin Keeler – Risk Management Technician Guests in Attendance: Avril Pinder, New Hanover County Finance Director Eric Gilbert, Moore and Johnson Agency Eric Stevens, Moore and Johnson Agency ORDER OF BUSINESS: 1.Minutes Review/Approved 2.Reviewed the list of upcoming insurance renewals for the above entities. 3.New Hanover County Airport Authority:  The Airport Authority will renew their insurance policy with NCACC Liability and Property Pool Fund as quoted.  The Airport Authority’s renewal worker’s compensation policy with NCACC came in much higher than expected. Risk Manager Allen reported alternate quotes were being sought.  The Airport may non-renew the Volunteer Accident policy if worker’s compensation coverage remains with NCACC, as its volunteers are included for coverage. 1  The Airport elected to non-renew their Ocean Marine Pollution Liability coverage, as their vessel only holds 6-gallons of fuel. 4.New Hanover County Board of Education:  Risk Manager Allen reported she and Zach Wright of Surry Insurance met with the Board of Education and presented their renewal quotes for Commercial Auto Liability, Garage Liability and Worker’s Compensation Insurance. The Board of Education accepted quotes as per expiring coverages and deductibles. The Board of Education continues to insure their vehicles that are 1999 and newer and their buses 1992 and newer for physical damage coverage. The Board of Education’s garage liability will be issued insuring the bus garage and the auto repair program at New Hanover High School. Risk Manager Allen continues to work with the Board of Education and Key Risk to prepare them for self-insuring their worker’s compensation exposures. The policy will renew as expiring. 5.Southeastern Center for Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Abuse Services had no changes in exposures and will renew with the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners Liability & Property Pool. 6.Risk Management is obtaining quotes for liability and property insurance for the New Hanover Soil and Water Conservation District. 7.New Hanover County:  Eric Gilbert and Eric Stevens of Moore & Johnson Agency presented the County’s renewal quotes for property and liability coverages. The property quote from Lexington increased by $57,000, which in part was due to an increase in the limit of coverage. The liability quote from Travelers Insurance Company included an overall increase in quoted premium of 9.6% that was largely due to changes in exposures. A quote for a separate inland marine policy is still being sought.  New Hanover County canceled the Sherriff’s Department Aviation Insurance policy because the helicopter was sold.  Risk Manager Allen is working with the Library Director to obtain an appraisal of the Local History Room collection. Upon receipt Risk Management will review values/coverages with Lexington and update or move coverage to the artifact policy for museum items by adding a (library) location to the policy.  The Walker Taylor Agency and StarrTech are working to provide New Hanover County with a renewal quote for WASTEC, which will be unoccupied when the policy renews. 8.Adjournment 2
