Room #119 (next to Parks Office) 1.Call to Order Frank Amoroso, Chairman 2.Departmental update Tara Duckworth 3.Park Operations update Andy Johnson 4.Non-agenda items 5.Adjourn NEW HANOVER COUNTY PARKS ADVISORY BOARD PAGE 2 REGULAR MEETING JUNE 3, 2015 ASSEMBLY The New Hanover County Parks Advisory Board met in Regular Session on Wednesday, June 3, 8:00a.m. in Conference Room 119, at 230 Government Center Drive, Wilmington, NC. Present: Andy Mills, Rebecca Powell, Linda Reece, Bruce Shell, Shawn Spencer, Nikki Zeldin. Absent: Frank Amoroso. Staff: Tara Duckworth, Tanya Gurganious and Andy Johnson. 1. Call to Order . The meeting was called to order by Nikki Zeldin. th 2. Approval of Minutes. Nikki Zeldin asked if there were any changes to the minutes of the May 6 meeting. There was a correction noted as Andy Mills was not included as having been present. There being no further corrections, the following motion was presented: MOTION: MOVED; SECONDED Bruce Shell by Linda Reece that the minutes of the May 6,2015 meeting MOTION CARRIED be approved with the addition of adding Andy Mills as present. Upon vote, the UNANIMOUSLY . 3. Departmental Update. Tara Duckworthshared information about thegeocaching program which is going well with several people reporting that they have already found all of the geocaches. Work will begin on the th resurfacing of the Laney HS tennis courts on Monday, June 29. This is a joint effort between New Hanover County, the Greater Wilmington Tennis Association and New Hanover County Schools (each gave 1/3 of the cost). Tara also shared a copy of the skate park design, which includes both Phase I and II. Plan to apply for grants to provide giveaways to people who pledge money to the skate park for future upgrades. Shawn Spencer asked if there could be a restroom at the bike park. Tara will gather prospective cost for this project and Shawn will see if he can get some sponsors to provide funds. 4. Park Operations Update. Andy Johnson reported that there had previously been delays in the Castle Hayne Park construction due to inclement weather. However, construction has picked up a lot of speed in last month. Currently preparing to put lighting in for the new fields. Changes were also made to the road design leading to the various fields which helped to maximize field space. (After construction, there will be 4 full-sized multi- use fields.) Currently working on the new entrance point from Castle Hayne Road. Lastly, Andy shared that he and Tara took the County Management out to see the progress of Castle Hayne Park. After sharing that there was not enough money to include a basketball court in the first phase of construction, county management agreed to secure the funds for a half-court basketball court to be installed near the tennis courts. 5.
