Risk Mgmt Advisory Committee Mtg 03-15-2011MEETING MINUTES: New Hanover County Attorney’s Office – Risk Management BUSINESS: Review and discuss the renewals for the City of Wilmington, Cape Fear Public Utility Authority, New Hanover County, New Hanover County Airport, New Hanover County Board of Education, Southeastern Center for Mental Health/Developmental Disabilities/Substance Abuse Services and Youth Empowerment Services. TIME AND PLACE: March 15, 2011, 9:00 a.m. New Hanover County Government Center Finance Room # 502 230 Government Center Wilmington, NC ATTENDANCE: Committee members and staff in attendance: Richard Beebee Walker Taylor, IV Ron Woodruff Tiffany Allen – Risk Manager Jennifer Stancil – Risk Management Specialist Robin Keeler – Risk Management Technician Guest in Attendance: None ORDER OF BUSINESS: Minutes Review/Approved Discussed Expiration List and Reviewed upcoming renewals. Cape Fear Public Transportation has decided they want NHC Risk Management Department to manage their insurance again. The policies renew 7/1/11-12 and will be taken over then. Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP Plan) - The Risk Management Department is working on updating information. New Hanover County Sheriff’s Department is selling their helicopter; it is currently on GovDeals.com. We will speak with the insurance carrier, currently writing the coverage, to see if they will be willing to stay on the coverage and offer a credit because it is now grounded. There are current discussions about the Fire Department and Sheriff’s Department having to meet a BMI requirement of 35%. There will be a meeting held at the Government Center on April 1, 2011, in the Human Resources department to discuss the different options. Wastec- Risk Management is still waiting to hear on the decision as to whether or not Wastec will be sold, continue as is, or be shut down. Risk Management is working on getting a volunteer orientation together to explain what will and will not be covered in the event of an incident. New Hanover County Board of Education Depending on if the proposed state budget passes, there could be major changes to the Insurance. If it passes the Board of Education will have to insure the local and state employees on their Workers Compensation policy as well as all local and state vehicles. This could increase their premium by hundreds of thousands of dollars and could force them to self-insure. The renewal quote has been received with the coverage’s the same as last year. The premium has decreased approximately 5% from last year. New Hanover County Inland Marine policy is for the Museum and the values have increased this year; Risk Management is working with them to get the updated values. Cape Fear Public Utility Authority is going out for bid this year and Risk Management is in the process of getting the applications ready to get them out to be quoted
