REGULAR MEETING MAY 49 2016
ASSEMBLY
The Parks Advisory Board held its regular meeting on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at 8:00am in Conference
Room 119, 230 Government Center Drive, Wilmington NC.
Present: Frank Amoroso, Andy Mills, Linda Reece and Shawn Spencer.
Absent: Rebecca Powell, Bruce Shell and Nikki Zeldin.
Staff: Tara Duckworth and Andy Johnson.
WELCOME AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The meeting was called to order by Andy Mills who asked for a motion to approve the minutes of the April
meeting. The following motion was presented:
MOTION: Frank Amoroso MOVED; SECONDED by Linda Reece, that the minutes of the April meeting be
approved. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
1. Directors Report. Tara provided the following updates on several products currently going on within the parks
system:
The Ogden trail has been put out to bid. This trail will connect to the existing walking trail. Construction should
start this month with completion in June.
We expect the construction of the Ogden Skate Park to take from 4 -6 months.
The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Northern Regional Park will take place Saturday, May 21' at 10:00am.
A Master Plan meeting will be held on May 16th, 6:00pm at the Executive Development Center. Will go over the
draft of the Master Plan at that time.
The deconstruction of the Hugh MacRae Park playground will begin next week. The basketball court that was
added to the park has been a nice addition and looks like it has been there for a while.
Airlie Gardens begins its summer concert series this Friday. "Ribbit the Exhibit" will be on display there from
May — Sept 5'h. The board was reminded that admission is free at Airlie the first Sunday of every month.
Lastly, Tara shared that the City of Wilmington is considering a parks bond.
2. Park Operations Update. Andy Johnson reported that the Arrowhead Park project is nearing completion with the
final touches being done on the landscaping. He is still working with the disc golf folks to get two holes redesigned
at Northern Regional Park. Spring season is winding down and we're gearing up for summer athletic season.
3. Master Plan Survey Results. Tara briefly reviewed the results of the master plan survey.
4. Other Business. Shawn Spencer asked about the possibility of utilizing utility easements for trails (biking,
walking). There was some discussion on the subject. Tara shared that it's a great idea, but may be costly due to
Duke Energy specification and requirements.

MOTION: Shawn Spencer MOVED; SECONDED by Frank Amoroso, that the meeting be adjourned. Upon vote,
the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
The meeting adjourned at 9:12 am.
