REGULAR MEETING FEBRUARY 1, 2017
ASSEMBLY
The Parks Advisory Board held its regular meeting on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at 8:00am in Conference
Room 119, 230 Government Center Drive, Wilmington NC.
Present:
Frank Amoroso, Patrick O’Mahony, Rebecca Powell, Linda Reece, Shawn Spencer and Nikki Zeldin.
Absent:
Bruce Shell.
Staff:
Tara Duckworth, Tanya Gurganious and Andy Johnson.
WELCOME AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The meeting was called to order by Nikki Zeldin who asked if there were any changes or corrections to the
minutes of the February meeting. No changes were noted and the following motion was presented:

Director’s Report.
1. Tara Duckworth shared a map of the Ogden trails. She and staff are working with the DOT
to add more planted medians. (One will be placed in front of Ogden Fire Station). Also working on installing
several multi use paths and sidewalks. One will pick up where the Cross City Trail ends another will go up
Market on the left hand side of the road to Marsh Oaks. The Covil Farm area multi-use path is happening now.
Grindline, the company that installed the skate park, will come back to make some maintenance changes to the
rd
bowl. The Food Truck Rodeo coincides with official opening of the skatepark, which is Sunday, April 23 at
2pm. (The Food Truck Rodeo runs from 12-5pm.) The Ogden Park basketball court is currently under
st
construction. Lights will be installed at the Ogden dog park. The Splash pad will open on April 1and run
st
through October 31. An opening event, The Big Splash, is being planned.
Staff is also working to put together a “Trash Mob” in an effort to make our community look cleaner and
prettier. The kickoff is in advance of the Wells Fargo golf tournament. There will be volunteers placed in
different sections with strategic areas cleaned up.
The Parks Conservancy is adopting the area near Smith Creek Park (Harris Road). Additionally, they have
decided on a new project for which they can raise funds, a Challenge Course. Tara shared a sample of what the
proposed course, to be located at Northern Regional Park, will look like.
Park Operations Update.
2. Andy Johnson reported that the tennis courts will be resurfaced at Ogden Park soon.
