CulturalCompetency/ImplicitBias MelanienotedthesubcommitteewasinterestedinlearningmoreaboutandworkingwithNHRMC, JosephConwaytoexploreculturalcompetencyeducationandotherrelatedeffortstofosterequitable accesstoqualityhealthcare.MelaniewillbereachingouttoMr.Conway.Continuingthereport,the subcommitteesuggestedtheCRACrecommendtotheCityofWilmingtonandNHCountyprovideImplicit Bias/CulturalCompetencyTrainingforalldepartments.LorimadeamotiontheCRACrecommendthe CityofWilmingtonandNHCprovideImplicitBias/CulturalCompetencyTrainingforalldepartments. Jensecondedandthemotioncarried.TherecommendationwillbepresentedtotheCityCounciland NHCviaalettertotheCityandCountyManagers.JensuggestedallCRACmembersparticipateinCultural Competencytrainingiftheyhavenotyethadanopportunitytodoso. PublicSafety/DeEscalation MelanieandWaltersharedtheirexperienceparticipatingintherecentWPD¤tśĂľśYśś♫śʼntrainingon deescalationandrespectfulengagement.Both,statedthetrainingwasverypositive,policeofficerswere veryengagedandtheinstructorwasqualifiedandexperienced.MelanieremarkedthatoneoftheCRAC goalsistomakesurethecommunityunderstandsWPD/NHCSOpractices.Towardthatend,Melanie madeamotionthattheCRACaskWPDandNHCSOtomeetwiththeCRACtodiscusspolicyforuseof force.Emilysecondedandthemotioncarried.MelaniewillmakecontactwithWPDandNHCSOto arrange.DiscussionensuedaboutmediaandpublicrelationseffortsofPoliceandSheriffasrelatesto informingthepublicaboutthingslikethe¤tśĂľśYśś♫śʼndeescalationtraining. LorireportedfortheProgramming&PublicEducationsubcommitteesasfollows: Theprogramming&publiceducationsubcommitteemetMarch18th,attendedbyLori,Emily,Jeffand Kristen. ThecommitteediscussedthedisseminationofthesurveyandtheneedforallCRACmemberstoidentify theirnetworksandcirclesofinfluencetohelpgetthesurveyout.LoriintroducedDr.KristinDeVall,UNCW , SSARCandCaitlynHeaneystudent.Dr.DeVallexplainedthemethodstobeusedtodistributethesurvey includingconductingarandomsamplesurveybyphonethatisstaticallyvalidwitha95%confidencerate. Discussionensuedonthemethodology,generalcontentandtimeline;aswellasmediaoutreachand networking.CRACmemberswillbeinvolvedingettinghardcopiesofthesurveytovariousorganizations thatrepresentmarginalizedandatriskstakeholders.DependingonwhenthecontractbetweenUNCW andtheCityisexecutedthetimelinemayneedtobeadjusted.
