Room #119 1.Call to Order Shawn Spencer, Chair 2.Approval of January Minutes Shawn Spencer 3.Voice of Customer Input Steve Morrissey 4.Top of Mind Topics All 5.Director/Staff Q&A 6.Adjourn NEW HANOVER COUNTY PARKS ADVISORY BOARD PAGE 1 REGULAR MEETING FEBRUARY 6, 2019 ASSEMBLY The Parks Advisory Board held its regular meeting on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at 8:00am in Conference Room 119, 230 Government Center Drive, Wilmington NC. Present: Shawn Spencer, Colin Hackman, , Andy Kerkhoff, Steve Morrissey and Nicholas Leger. Staff: Tara Duckworth and Andy Johnson. Guests: Phil Bradford, Cape Fear Pickleball Club and Rex Buford (Battle Park group) WELCOME AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES The meeting was called to order by Shawn Spencer who welcomed everyone and asked if there were any corrections to the minute. There were none noted and the following motion was presented: th MOTION: MOVED; SECONDED by Steve Morrissey, that the minutes of the January 9 meeting be approved. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. 1.Voice of Customer Input. Phil Bradford handed out a brief information sheet about pickleball in New Hanover County (attached). He also indicated the pickleball club would be interested in converting the two tennis courts at Arrowhead Park into pickleball courts. Andy Johnson indicated the cost would be approximately $50,000-$60,000 for the conversion. The fencing would need modification as well. Steve Morrissey recommended we consider leaving one tennis court and converting the other to three pickleball courts. Colin Hackman noted he did not see tennis players utilizing Arrowhead courts often. Patrick tennis courts at Ogden Park, all hours of the day. There was some brief discussion on private indoor facilities that are used for pickleball as well. The club is also interested in offering a family pickleball day at Northern Regional Park to introduce others to the sport. Shawn Spencer asked that the board consider a recommendation to allow Class 1 e-bikes at Blue Clay Bike Park. Tara Duckworth commented that staff had reached out to the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Bike-Ped -mail (attached) last week. Staff would like to work with the MPO and CF SORBA to bring forward a comprehensive plan for e- bikes after more research is conducted. Tara Duckworth asked the MPO Bike-Ped committee to add it to their agenda in the coming months. 2.Director/Staff Q&A. Tara Duckworth shared the latest newsletter as well as a New Hanover County Quick Facts Census information sheet with information on county demographics for general knowledge of the board. ADJOURNMENT MOTION: Steve Morrissey MOVED; SECONDED by, that the meeting be adjourned. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. The meeting adjourned at 9:00am.
