The New Hanover County Board of Health met on Tuesday, June 21, 1983 in
Special Session at the New Hanover County Health Department.

Mabel Price, Recording Secretary
Mr. Durham, Chairman, called the meeting to order at 8:00 A. M.
Home Health Care: Dr. Eakins asked that the Board be brought up to date
on Comprehensive Health Care's request to the County Commissioners that
they be the only Home Health Agency in New Hanover County. Mr. Durham
reported that the Commissioners had tabled Comprehensive's request and
had asked the Health Department to establish a comparative cost basis.

There was a general discussion of claims made by Comprehensive to the County
Commissioners. It was the general feeling of the Board of Health members
that competition between the two agencies is good for the Community and that
the Health Department would end up giving home health care to the indigent
whatever action is taken.
Acting Director: Mr. Grathwol moved that Dr. J. William Eakins be appointed
as Acting Health Director until a Director is employed. Mr. Blake seconded
the motion and it carried unanimously.
Dr. Eakins moved the Board go into Executive Session to discuss the candidates
for Health Director's position. Mr. Grathwol seconded the motion and it unani-
mously carried.
Dr. Eakins moved the Board return to regular session. Mr. Grathwol seconded
the motion and it carried unanimously.
There being no further business, Mr. Grathwol moved the meeting be adjourned.
Dr. Neal seconded the motion and it was unanimously approved and the meeting
was adjourned.
