___ PUBLIC HEARING TO HEAR COMMENTS ON THE PROPOSED SMOKING POLLUTION
CONTROL REGULATION OF THE NEW HANOVER COUNTY BOARD OF HEALTH
The New Hanover County Board of Health held a Public Hearing on the
Proposed Smoking Pollution Control Regulation (SPCR) at 7:00 P.M. on
Monday, April 30, 1990, New Hanover County Health Department
Auditorium in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Dr. Leonard, Chairman opened the Public Hearing at 7 P.M.
Dr. Leonard explained that sixty (60) people had signed up prior to
the Public Hearing to express their opinions on the county-wide
proposed SPCR that would prohibit smoking in almost all public places.
Each speaker will be allotted a maximum of three minutes. Another
Public Hearing will be planned if necessary. The purpose of the
Public Hearing was to receive public input on the SPCR. Ms. Smith,
Assistant Health Director, was designated timekeeper.
Persons signing up for allotted times to speak yielded their time to
other speakers. A total of thirty-two (32) persons gave their
opinions on the proposed regulation. Eleven (11) spoke in favor of
the SPCR and twenty-one (21) spoke against the SPCR.
