REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING OF BOARD OF HEALTH
HELD IN OFFICE OF BOARD

Present: Chairman Addison Hewlett, Mr. H. M. Roland, Dr. J. C. Wessell,
Dr. W. Houston Moore, and Dr. H. L. Keith.
Minutes of last meeting were read and approved.
After a genera! consideration of each applicant for the position of
plumbing inspector, the following were nominated: B. R. Drynan, J. W. Griffith,
and Graham B. Parrott of Durham, N. C. When the ballot was taken, there were
two votes for Mr. Griffith and two for Mr. Parrott. The chairman of the Board
then broke the tie by voting for Mr. Griffith. Mr. Griffith was therefore
elected to begin his duties July 1, 1937. The plumbing inspector's duties
by legislative action are to be primarily inspecting plumbing and the rest
of his time to be given to whatever duties may be assigned him by the Board of
Health.
At Dr. Moore's suggestion, Dr. Huffman discussed the problem of inspection
of food handling places, meats, and the quarantining, and observing dogs that
have bitten people, and explained to the Board that as a part-time employee he
was badly in need of some help to do the routine frequently repeated inspections
of the cafes and restaurants. The Health Officer suggested that such help might
be provided either by having one of our inspectors specially trained or by
using the plumbing inspector when not busy with plumbing inspection.
It was moved by Dr. Wessell, seconded by Mr. Roland, that the 1937-38
budget be adopted as proposed by the Health Officer. Carried. The chairman
specifically not voting. (See budget next page)
The Health Officer asked for and was granted permission to use any
unexpended budget items to take care of the overdrafts of any other items
at the end of the fiscal year.
There being no fUrther business, the Board adjourned.
