02/09/1939 51 REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING, BOARD OF HEALTH HELD IN OFFICE OF BOARD FEBRUARY 9, 1939 Present: Chairman Addison Hewlett, Mr. H. M. Roland, Dr. J. C. Wessell, Dr. W. Houston Moore, and Dr. B. R. Morrison. ... Minutes of last meeting were read and approved. The Health Officer presented the monthly reports. Inaamuch as the election of the professional members by the ex- officio members was overlooked at the January meeting, Mr. Roland and Mr. Hewlett eleoted Dr. John C. Wessell, Dr. 1f. Houston Moore- medical members, and Dr. B. R. Morrison- dental member. The whole Boerd then re-eleoted the present personnel of the department. The oommittee appointed to make recommendations regarding the eelection of a plumbing inspector, recommended Mr. Theodore Schrader. It was moved by Mr. Roland, seconded by Dr. Morrison, that the recommendation be accepted- that is that Mr. Schrader be elected to the petition of plumbing inspeotor. Carried. Because of the fact that Mr. Schrader hed been on the Examining Board (Of plumbere) as s plumber and now automatically beoomes the plumbing inspector member of this Board, it was neceasary to appoint some one to succeed him as plumbing member. It was moved by Dr. Wessell, seoonded by Mr. Roland, thet Mr. L. O. Goodyear be appointed to this position. Carried. Dr. J. C. Knox and Mr. R. F. Hill,of the State Board of Health, discussed with the Board the various features of a rat control program. After a general discussion, Mr. Hill reoommended, First, a clean-up oampaign- city dumps, alleys, stores, and homes; Second, poisoning and trapping cam- paign, which they stressed is only a temporary help; Third, rat-proofing of all buildings. Mr. Hill told the Board that he and Mr. Jarrett would be glad to come down and make a detailed survey and recommendations as to poisoning and proofing in case the Board decides to put on a rat control program. Mr. Hill stressed the fact that as long as food and lodging are' available we will have rats. There being no further business, the Board adjourned. , Approved (~.9 1939 Ii.Ji(:: ~ Clerk.
