Present: Mr. Hewlett, Mr. Roland and Dr. Wessell.
The minutes of the last meeting were read ,md approved.
The Health Officer presented the monthly reports.
Dr. \"Iessell broueht up the :uestion of whether or not 1irs. Peiffer's
salary would be paid while she was gone to Boston to sponsor the
launching of the ship nanled for her son. The Health Officer explained
that Mrs. Peiffer is not paid by the health department, but by the
Ministering Circle of the King's Daughters. He further explained that
Mrs. Peiffer had asked for a month off and had arranged to have Mrs.
Nixon (recently retired from our staff) relieve her for that month. The
Health Officer explained that if the Board so wished he was sure it could
be arranged for Mrs. Nixon to be paid with funds received from the State
Board of Health for the whole month and that 1ws. Peiffer retain her
month's salary instead of paying it over to Mrs. Nixon. After this expla-
nation, it was moved by Dr. Wessell and seconded by Mr. Roland that that
arrangement be followed and Mrs. Peiffer, out of consideration of her
many years of service to this department, be given a month's leave vlith pay.
The Health Officer explained the recoMJ1endation of the State Board of Health
that all departments having ten or more district nurses should have an
assistant supervisor. Inasmuch as we have sone sixteen nurses working under
the direction of our supervisor, the Health efficer asked for and received
the Board's authorization of makinE Miss llyriam Owen assistant to Miss
ColULlbia Munds. The Health Officer also re iuested that in view of her
increased duties her traveling allowance be raised out of contingent from
$20.00 to $30.00 per rr~nth. In order to be approved as assistant super-
visor she will have to take three months additional postgraduate work. The
Health Officer asked the Board's wishes re{'ardine the paying of Miss Owen
at least part of her salary while taking this course. After a brief dis-
cussion, it was moved by Mr. Roland, seconded by Dr. Wessell, that she be
paid tlvo-thirds of her salary while taking the postgraduate course, provided
there be a definite agreement about serving some specified length of time
following her return.

The Health Officer discussed briefly with the Board members their recommen-
dation toward the salary of the rat control inspector beginning July 1.
Their recommendation was that the Health Officer would have t01nake this
decision between now and July I based on the services rendered by the inspec-
tor.
