REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING BOMD OF HEALTH

The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
The Health Officer presented the monthly reports.
Dr. James H. Smith was presented to the Board by Chairman Hewlett as
the dental member of the Board succeeding Dr. B. R. Morrison whose re-
signation was accepted at the June 8 meeting.
The Health Officer offered for the Board's adoption or change and adoption
regulations covering conmercial poultry dressing and fish markets. After
a brief discussion it was moved by Mr. Roland, seconded by Mayor Lane,
that Doctors Moore and Wessell be authorized to study the proposed regula-
tions with the Health Officer and adopt them if any changes migh t be con-
sidered necessary. Carried. The above regulations as finally adopted by the
committee are to become effective on and after January 1, 1945.
Dr. Wessell discussed with the Board members the desirability of X-raying
the chest of all school teachers in the New Hanover system in connection
with their annual certification against contagious diseases. He then
moved that it is the sense of the Board of Health that the Board of Education
be acquainted with the fact that the Board of Health feels that all teachers
in the County system should be X-rayed for tuberculosis by State Sanatorium
personnel, seconded by Mayor Lane. Carried. j(

/' Mr. Edwards reported to the Board members on a visit to Western North Carolina
regarding our milk from that territory.He reviewed the history of our depar-
ture from the Standard Ordinance regulations under the unusual demandS caused
by the defense program. He relayed to the Board that Wilmington is getting the
top grade of milk from that area and that lower grades are being accepted as
type three milk by the Army in other areas. Mr. Edwards stated that we are
getting the most desirable of the 40,000 gallon daily production and that
other territories are getting the rest. The homogenization of milk was also
discussed. It was agreed that when the sp:pply and d.emand return to nonnal our
department must Ilgain demand the better raw milk product and more rigid obser-
vance of milk regulations.
The Health Officer was instructed to write Nr. Roland, Superintendent of
schools, recommending such procedure.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned.
