HELD IN OFFICE OF BOARD
APRIL 8, 1948
Present: Mr. Addison Hewlett, Chairman, Mayor E. L. White, Mr. H. M.
Roland, and Dr. James H. Smith.
The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
The Health Officer presented the monthly reports.
Mr. W. L. McDade, Box 251, Durham, North Carolina, appeared before
the Board to ask pemission to operate in this County a "thick" milk-
shake apparatus. He says that it is not exactly frozen and may be
served with either a spoon or straw. Mr. McDade explained the apparatus
and processing of his product.
After a general discussion, it was moved by ~~yor vlhite, seconded by
~tt. Roland, that Mr. McDade's request be taken under consideration and
discussed especially with the medical members of the Board.
Mayor White reported further on his communication from the Department
of the Interior regarding rat proofing and preservation of food, es-
pecially commenting on the fact that free public materials were available
if our department wanted them.
The Health Officer was instructed to write ~~. Krug, of the Department
of the Interior, as to what our department is doing along this line.
The Health Officer read to the Board members a letter addressed to Mr.
Hewlett, Chairman, from Mr. Emmett Bellamy requesting a compromise
settlement in the case of Mr. C. d. Davis' rat proofing bill. After a
brief discussion, it was moved by Mayor White, seconded by Mr. Roland (?)
that this and all other rat proofing bills be handled alike; that is,with-
out compromise settlements.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
