OF '!HE BOARD OF HEALTH
On August lA, 1948, Mr. Addison Hewlett, Mr. H. M. Roland and
Mayor E. L. \ihite, ex officio members of the Board of Health,
met in the office of the Board for the purpose of appointing
a medical member of the Board to succeed Dr. W. Houston Moore,
deceased.
Dr. J. C. KnoK was contacted ey telSFRQ~and accepted the
appointment as a medical member of the Board of Health.

Present: Mr. Addison Hewlett, Chairman, Mayor E. L. White, Dr.
J. C. Wessell, Mr. H. M. Roland and Dr. James H. Smith.
The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
The Health Officer presented the monthly reports.
Mr. Hewlett welcomed Dr. J. C. Knox as a member of the Board
succeeding Dr. W. Houston Moore, deceased.
After a general discussion of the advisability of postponing the
opening of school, it was moved by Mayor White, seconded by Dr.
Wessell, that a tentative date for opening of the schools be Sept-
ember 13 instead of September 1 as originally scheduled. It was
further stated that the opening date would be subject to either
confirmation or further ppstponement on September 7 (in order to
give the Board of Education time to notify the teachers). Motion
carried.
It was moved by Mr. Roland that resolutions of regret at the death
of Dr. W. Houston Moore be drawn up. Dr. Wessell seconded the motion
and included in his second that Mr. Roland be asked to draw up such
resolutions. Carried.
After a brief discussion of the advisability of requlrlng urinals ~
where public toilets for men are mandatory, it was moved by Dr. Wessell,
seconded by Mr. Roland that urinals be required wherever men's toilets
are mandatory. Carried.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.

On September 7, 1948, the Board members were poled by telephone and
were unanimous in their opinion that the opening of schools should
be further postponed from September 13 to September 20. The Board
of Education was advised of such action.
