11/28/1951 / 83 REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING BOARD OF HEALTH HELD IN OFFICE OF BOAflll NOVEMBER 28, 1951 I IL U'_ ' Present: ~. Addison Hewlett, Chairman, Mayor E. L. White, Dr. J. C. Knox, Dr. J. C. Wessell and Dr. James H. Smith. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. After a brief discussion of the uniforms for the sanitarians; it was moved by Dr. Wessell, seconded by Dr. Smith, that a $5.00 salary increase be given in lieu of the uniforms to Mr. Blanchard and Mr. Hunter. Carried. The article appearing in the newspaper (Wilmington Morning Star, November 28, 1951) regarding the incident of Venereal Disease in New Hanover County was discussed by the Board members. It was the opinion of the Board that Dr. Lee had exceeded his authority and the article might cause embarrassment to Wilmington interests. Dr. Davis was instructed to call this matter to Dr. Lee's attention. r On motion by Dr. Knox, seconded by Dr. Wessell, a salary increase of $20.00 per month was granted Mr. Long, Typhus Control Inspector. Carried. , The Unsatisfactory condition of tanker milk was called to the attention of the board members. It was brought out in the discussion that better milk was not available in the eastern United States. It was also brought out that the Department of Agriculture, due to the fact that they have control of out-of-state milk shipments, prevent Wilmington from contracting on the year-round basis for the milk they need. It was the expressed opinion of all the Board members present that there was nothing that could be done about this situation at this time. Dr. Knox eKpressed the thought that we should carry our thoughts on this matter to the Department of Agriculture. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned. Approved !1c,A/1' 51.
