The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Upon receipt of a letter from the Merit System, which the Board members read, in which it was stated that $5.00 per month increases for Mr. Blanchard and Mr. Hunter were not permissible; however, they could be given $10.00 per month increases; on motion by Dr. Knox, seconded by Mr. Roland, it was moved that in lieu of uniforms Mr. Blanchard and Mr. Hunter be givenc a $10.00 per month increase. Carried. Ventilation relative to improper heating equipment in tourist courts and camps was b~)ught to the attention of the Board members by the Health Officer with the thought of the Board passing some regulation making for greater safety for the traveling public. The Health Officer read from the Georgia ordinance cer- tain items pertaining to heating of these places. The Board discussed the matter, but no action was taken at this time. It was sUf,gested that the Health Ufficer see if any action could be gotten from the State Board of Health or other agencies of a higher than county level. . The Health Officer announced that a conference would be held in the Tide Water building on January 21, 1952, on the fluoridation of the city drinking water. Any action on this matter was held up pending more infon-nation and it was sug- gested that as many of the Board members as possible attend this meeting. The Health Ufficer reported to the Board members that the filtration plant is overloaded. This plant has a capacity of approximately 7,000,000 gallons per day. The City proposes to install three new filters, but due to inability to get shipment of steel this work cannot be done now. This information was given to the Board in order that they might be posted inasmuch as this department is charged with the sanitation of the water supply. The Health Officer called to the attention of the Board members the fact that this department has the right to placard as unsatisfactory certain buildings in bad repair, but that we do not have the right apparently to move people out of these buildings. The Board suggested that he discuss the matter with the Board's attorney and see if certain changes could not be made in the ordinance to take care of this situation. Recodification of the rules and regulations of the Health Department was dis- cussed. A firm specializing in this type work, in reply to a letter, offered to give an estimate on the cost; provided, all the material and data in the minutecbooks be sent to them. This was deemed unfeasible because if copy had to be made of all the material it would consume almost as much time as recodifi- cation. The Health Officer was requetted to confer with the Health Department's attorney on this matter. ~ A letter to Commissioner L. Y. Ballentine regarding tanker milk was read to the Board members and was approved as written. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned. Approved J.Pl. ~ - 1952 'f~ obo/
