01/07/1953 109 - . REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING BOARD OF HEALTH HELD IN OFFICE OF BOARD JANUARY 7, 1953 Present: Mr. Ralph T. Horton, Chairman; Mayor E. L. White, Dr. J. C. Knox and Dr. James H. Smith. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. r The Health Officer presented to the Board members for their considera- tion proposed rules and regulations governing the local IIl8rtuaries. Atter much discussion of this subject, the Health Officer was instructed to have mimeographed copies made of these proposed rules and regulations and a copy sent to each Board member, and that the subject be considered at their next. meeting. The matter of transferring bodies from the cemeteries in the SUIllI1 Point area in Brunswick County to New Hanover County was discussed. The Health Officer reported that a satisfactory agreement had been reached between the U. S. Engineers office and the health department concerning this matter. .. This being the first Board meeting of the odd year, on motion by Mayor While, seconded by Chairman Horton, the three medical members; namely, Dr. J. C. Wessell, Dr. J. C. Knox and Dr. James H. Smith were re-elected as members of the Board of Health for a two year tem. Dr. Knox made a motion that the present personnel of the health department be retained in their present positions. This motion was seconded by Mayor White and carried. The Health Officer presented to the Board a suggestion that the present telephone system be changed to an entirely new system; however, it was brought out in the discussion that this was not feasible inasmuch as it would entail a much larger expenditure for telephone service than is set up in the current budget. The p. and C. Center has agreed to pay for the cost of installation and rent of an additional telephone and extension in this department. On motion made by Mayor White, seconded by Dr. Smith, it was agreed to accept this offer from the p. and C. Center. Motion carried. There being no further business, the meeting adjoumed.
