02/04/1953 r 111 REGULAR MONTHLY M6ETING BOARD OF HEALTH HELD IN OFFICE OF BOARD FEBRUARY 4, 1953 Present: Mr. Ralph T. Horton, Chainnan; Mayor E. L. White, Dr. J. C. Knox and Dr. James H. Smith. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. r The Health Officer explained to the Board members that copies of the proposed rules and regulations for mortuaries were not mimeographed and sent to them due to the rush of routine clerical work. , The Health Officer discussed the condition of septic tanks and stonn drainage at Harbor Island with members of the Board. The condition of the septic tanks at the Southern end of the Island were said to be very bad, Mr. Caton of the Division of Sanitary Engineering, State Board of Health, was present and stated that from his observation the sanitary and stonn drainage in the Southern part of Harbor Island were in very poor condition. He further stated tha~_sllR.t:.ic tanks cannot work satisfactorily under the conditions now exlstiztg'S8tIthern part of Harbor Island. He stated also that eventually the property owners on Harbor Island will have to install a public sewer system. On motion b;r Mayor White, seconded by Dr. Knox, the Health Officer was instructed to notify all property owners on Harbor Island, by letter, to attend a meeting at which time Mr. J. M. Jarrett, Director of Sanitary Engineering, State Board of Health, would be asked to discuss with them their sewerage problems. Motion carried. The Health Officer discussed with the Board the unsatisfactory condition surrounding the disposal of garbage at Carolina Beach. The Board instructed the Health Officer to write Mrs. Strickland, Town Clerk, Carolina BeaCh, calling to her attention this matter. The Board asked that they be kept infonned on the matter of garbage disposal in the county. Dr. Knox raised the question of proper sanitary facilities for trailer courts. On motion made by Dr. Smith, seconded by Dr. Knox, the Health Officer was instructed to check with other places concerning their trailer sanitation with the idea of submitting to the Board, at a later time, recommendations with regard to trailer courts sanitation.
