REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING BOARD OF HEALTH
HELD IN OFFICE OF BOARD
DECE}rnER 2, 1953
Present: Mr. Ralph T. Horton, Chairman; Mayor E. L. White, Dr. J. C. Knox,
Dr. J. C. Wessell, Dr. James H. Smith and Mr. H. M. Roland.
There having been no meeting of the Board in November, the minutes of the
October meeting were read and approved.
The Health Officer reported that the information received on the several
applicants for the position of food sanitarian was unfavorable, and the
position remains unfilled.
Following a discussion of the work Mr. Haas is doing, it was stated that he
should be given a definite number of places to grade each month. On motion
by Dr. Smith, seconded by Dr. Wessell, the Health Officer was instructed to
have Mr. Haas grade a minimum of thirty (30) places each month. Carried.
The Health Ufficer reporting on the meeting of the meat producers from other
counties, stated that they agreed to get started December 1, 1953, and after
getting things lined up their Ordinance would become effective October 7,
1953, the same as ours.

Mr. Edwards stated that a pennit had been requested by Coble Dairy Products
Company to distribute milk in New Hanover County. He also stated that inas-
much as the 1953 State Legislature passed a law setting up a State Milk Com-
mission, he felt that the proper procedure would be for Mr. Coble to show
his right under this Commission to distribute in New Hanover County. en
motion by Dr. Wessell, seconded by Mr. Roland, that the matter of a pennit for
Coble Dairy Products Company be postponed until the State Milk.Commission had
acted on a pennit to the Coble Dairy Products Company for this area. The motion
carried. Mayor White asked to be recorded as not voting.

Chairman Horton asked the Board to recommend Dr. Frank Hall as Chairman of the
local Milk Commission. The Board approved this action.
The physical condition of Mr. Geo. F. Potter was discussed and the Health Officer
suggested that he be appointed assistant plumbing inspector. The Health Officer
further recommended that Mr. Potter's duties be essentially that of rural sani-
tarian. On motion by Dr. Wessell, seconded by Dr.Smith, that Mr. Potter workillg
as rural sanitarian and assistant plumbillg inspector receive his regular salary
of $310.00 per month. Carried.

Chairman Horton read a communication from Mrs. Larrimore regardillg vines grow-
ing on her house and asked if something could be done to get rid of them. Mr.
Lassiter stated that unless there is standing water or other conditions detri-
mental to health that we have no means, under the law, of taking care of this
situation. Dr. Smith suggested that the Chairman write a letter to Mrs. Larri-
more advising her of the above decision.
