REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING BOARD OF HEALTH
HELD IN OFFICE OF BOARD

James H. Smith and Mr. H. M. Roland.
On motiollll by Dr. Wessell, seconded by Mr. Roland, the minutes of the last meeting
were approved without being read.
Chairman Horton asked Mr. Lassiter for information concerning the operation of the
landfill. and he reported that the three major operators were licensed by this de-
partment and were covering the material.
Mr. Lassiter was also asked about the progress of the mosquito spraying. He stated
that a considerable portion of the county had been larvacided and that we had been
exceptionally free of adult mosquitoes so far this year; that the Dyna-Fog machine.
had not been used due to the fact that adult mosquitoes had not been a problem )Ill to
this time.

After a general discussion of the budget for the fiscal year 1956-1957; the following
changes were made; the salary requested for the supervising nurse was raised to
$4,320.00; the request for the salary of a junior sanitarian was changed to that of
a senior sanitarian at $3,720.00; an additional clerk was requested at a salary of
$1,920.00. The motion for the change of the supervising nurse I s salary was made by
Dr. Wessell, seconded by Dr. Knox and carried. The motion requesting a senior
sanitarian in place of a junior sanitarian was I18de by Dr. KnQx seconded by Dr. Wessell,
and carried. The motion to include an additional junior stenographer clerk was made by
Dr. Knox, seconded by Dr. Wessell and carried.
The Health Officer requested that he be put on record as opposing additional appropriatio
for tuberculosis work _less an additional clerk was placed in the b1lliget to take care
of the added clerical work.
The Health Officer also asked to be recorded as stating that the present system of
janitorial care of the building was inadequate, stating that the clinic area should
be thoroughly scrubbed at least twice weekly in order that danger to Jl$Ople attending
the clinics be minimized.

After looking over Mr. J. M. Teeter's recommendations for senior sanitarian, the
individual msmbers of the Board commented on the very fine recommendations given Mr.
Teeter by those peoPle he had been associated with in Yanceyville, North Carolina
A 1II0tion was made by Mr. Roland, seconded by Dr. Wessell, confirming the appointment
of Mr. Teeter as Senior Sanitarian to replace Mr. F. P. Blanchard, retired.

This being the last meeting over which Mr. Ral]i1 T. Horton preside, he expressed
his gratude for having had the privilege of serving on a Board of the caliber of the
Board of Health. He said he had learned much from them and wished corrt.inued success
for the efforts of this Board to promote public health in New lI;1.nover County. Dr. Knox
and Dr. Wessell responded and expressed the thought that Mr. Horton had made an excellent
presiding officer . and that he had made honest endeavors to promote the welfare of the
health department.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
