RmULAR MEETING OF BOARD OF HEALTH
HELD IN OFFICE OF BOARD
September 7, 1966

Minutes of the August 3, 1966 meeting were approved by motion of Dr. Knox, seconded
by Dr. Wagoner.
Septic Tank at Service Station on Shipyard Blvd. - Mr. LoIlJ1:: Mr. W. H. Cranford,
Director of Sanitation, reported to the Board that he could not consider this a
hardship case (see minutes of August 3, 1966). Motion was made by Mayor Allsbrook,
seconded by Dr. Knox, that Mr. Long be permitted to connect to the existing septic
tank until it becomes a health hazard or six months, whichever is earlier, and then
proceed to connect to the city sewer. Motion carried.

Water Pollution at Marinas: It was brought to the attention of the Board that the
situation around the different marinas with raw sewage is getting out of hand. Dr.
Hooper and Mr. Cranford have been in touch with Mr. Marshall Staton of the State
Board of Health and studies, such as were done at Harbor Island, will be made on
these areas and a report given to the Board of Health. Under our existing laws
there is nothing that can be done about the dumping of raw sewage from the boats.
(Mrs. Price was asked to write to the State of Virginia to see if we can get a copy
of their laws on this problem.)

Plumbing Inspector's Salary: The Board agreed that an adjustment should be made in
the Salary of the Plumbing Inspector to bring his salary in line with the Electrical
and Building Inspectors. When asked his opinion, Dr. Davis said that he would rather
not cOllllllent, that he must look at the whole budget picture. Dr. Hooper will advise
the County Connnissioners of the Board's agreement on this matter. During the course
of discussion it was suggested that the plumbing fees should be high enough to pay
salary and travel of the Plumbing Inspector and his Assistant.
Trash Dump: After considerable discussion, by cOllllllon consent the Board agreed to
accept ~~yor Allsbrook's offer to investigate a possible solution, personally,
for the problems of the City Trash Dump. Mayor Allsbrook will report his findings
to the Board in two weeks. After this report, the Board will consider further
action.
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned.
