MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING, August 6, 1969

Present: Mr, J. M, Hall, Jr" Chairman, Dr, James Smith, Dr. Frank Reynolds,
Mayor Luther Cromartie
Minutes of the July 2 meeting were approved by motion of Dr, Reynolds, seconded
by Dr, Smith,
Nursing Position: Dr. Knox advised the Board that the School of Medicine,
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will pay for one-half the salary
of Mrs, Betty West. !'''s. West will come to work with us on September 1.
Dental Program, Dr. Smith told the Board that for $5,200 we can get a full
time dentist for New Hanover County, The State will match this amount. If we
can use our $3,000 and use school health funds for the other $2,200 we can do
this. Also, Dr, Smith stated that we can bill Welfare for their patients.
County Survey: Dr. Knox told the Board that the Office of Comprehensive Health
planning will conduct a survey of citizen-consumer participation in health affairs
in New Hanover County the week of August 11.

X-Ray Cost: Dr, Smith made the motion, seconded by Dr, Reynolds that if the
charges for X-Rays needs to be increased, that Dr, Knox have the authority to
put the increase into effect, Motion carried,
Insect & Rodent Salaries: Dr. Knox asked the Board for permission to raise Mr.
George Shepard in accordance with the raises given the Drainage Program men.
Mr, Hall suggested that we write a letter to the County Commissioners re~uesting
permission to give Mr. Shepard this raise. Mr, Shepard was raised 5%, the amount
that we re~uested, but the Commissioners gave the Drainage men a 10% raise, which
we did not ask for.
Fogging, Mr, Hall asked about the fogging program and suggested that if we bought
another fogging machine that we contact Mr. John Westbrook at the County Airport
and ask him to get us a pick-up truck to mount it on.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
