06/02/1976 - 0066/ BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING - June 2, 1976 _. "" Present: Dr. James TidIer, Chairman, Dr. Frank Reynolds, Mr. Bruce Freeman, Dr. James Furr, Mr. George Chadwick, Mr. R. E. Carter, Mrs. Vivian Wright, Mrs. Roma Lee Hall, Mr. J. R. Reaves ~ Absent: None Minutes of the May meeting were approved as presented. Swimming Pool Ordinance: Mr. Frank Olive, Director of Sanitation, told the board about a new ordinance that had been adopted by the Division of Health Services in Raleigh which had been recommended for adoption at local level. Mr. Reaves made a motion that the board be sent copies of this ordinance for study and that input be secured from pool owners before action is taken and that this item be tables until the July meeting. Mrs. Wright seconded the motion. Dr. Reynolds made a substitute motion that the new standards be tentatively adopted and that a copy be sent to all members to be voted on next month. This motion was seconded by Dr. Furr. ~ote was taken on the substitute motion with three members voting for the substitute motion and four against. rote was taken on the original motion with four voting for the original motion and three against. Original motion carried. Re lations Governin Size of Pressure Tanks and P s for Private Wells: The ordinance governing the construction of wells an private waters supply systems within the county has been challenged by several people concerning the size of the pressure tank and pump. The date this ordinance went into effect was April 19, 1972. In 1970 the Board of Health, in connection with a previous ordinance, voted to change this to "recommended" instead of "shall" and ruled that these two items had nothing to do with public health. Motion was made by Mr. Reaves, seconded and passed, that the word "recommended" be used instead of "shall" in this 1972 ordinance - subject to our legal council's recommendations. Seaview Woods Trailer Park Problem With Horses: Mr. Olive had collected well samples of water as instructed in the May meeting. All samples were "Safe for Drinking". This board will take no further action. Private Practice for Employee Approved: Copies of a letter from Dr. Murphy of the Dental Health Division of the Department of Human Resources, giving Dr. Laris Milligan permission to do private practice on the side, were distributed to the board. Lead Screening Program: Dr. Knox reported to the board that the Medical Society has approved the lead screening program for New Hanover County. -- VD Statistics: Dr. Knox brought the board up to date on what is being done in the Venereal Disease Program in light of some recent unfavorable publicity in another part of the state. ~ OC662 Tuberculosis Control Program: Mrs. Winnifred Waters, PHN Supervisor I and Mrs. Frances Orrell, PHN I, gave an informational program on our tuberculosis control activities for the benefit of the board members. ~ There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. - Respectfully submitted, Approved: July 7, 1976 ~ t3 f/~ ..... - . ..... -
