MINUTES OF BOARD OF HEALTH - June 8, 1977

Present: Dr. Frank Reynolds, Chairman, Dr. James Furr, Mr. J. R. Reaves,
Mrs. Vivian Wright, Mrs. Roma Lee Hall, Mr. Deother Melvin, Dr.
Murray Seidel and Joseph Taylor, Attorney
Absent:
Mr. George Chadwick, Mr. R. E. Carter
Minutes of the May meeting were approved as presented.
Sewage Disposal Ordinance: Copies of this ordinance were distributed to
the Board Members in May for study. Mr. Frank Olive, Director of Environ-
mental Health expressed concern that the new ordinance did not specify a
minimum lot size and stated that he would like for the board to draw up a
reSOlution to cover this. Dr. Seidel made the motion, seconded by Mrs.
Hall, that the board adopt the minimum criteria we are now operating under
and refer this to our attorney for drawing up a resolution for adoption.
Motion carried.
Mr. Olive also asked if we could still charge a fee for lot evaluation as
we had for percolation tests. The Board asked that Mr. Olive and Dr. Finger
discuss this and make recommendations to the board at the July meeting.

WIC Program: Dr. Reynolds and Dr. Finger have been approached by telephone
and correspondence from several interested groups in the County asking that
the board reconsider the Women, Infant and Children Nutrition Program for
New Hanover County. Ms. Meridith Cosby, Director of the Region "0" Office,
Sara Roholt, Nutritionist with Region "0" and a representative of the League
of Women Voters and March of Dimes were present to make statements and
answer questions. Dr. Reynolds appointed Dr. Furr, Dr. Seidel and Mrs. Hall
as a committee to make a study of the WIC program and to make recommenda-
tions to the board.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
