08/05/1981 (10874 The New Hanover County Board of Health met on Wednesday, August 5, 1981 at the New Hanover County Health Department. ~ - Members Present: J. William Eakins, M. D., Chairman Hobart Whaley, Vice Chairman Donald Blake Hal A. Franklin, II, M. D. William Grathwol Roma Lee Ha 11 Larry Neal, D. D. S. Richard Reeder Members Absent: Carl Durham Others Present: James M. Brown, Secretary to the Board Robert Pope, County Attorney Mabel Price, Recording Secretary Dr. Eakins, Chairman, called the meeting to order at 8:10 A. M. and called for corrections to the July 1,1981 minutes. Mrs. Hall moved the minutes be approved. Mr. Reeder seconded the motion and it carried unanimously. .4 Dilapidated Hazardous Housing: Mrs. Hall reported that she had talked with John Moran, Environmental Health Director and Thad Carmichael, County Building Inspection Supervisor, and had found that New Hanover County had no rules or regulations covering hazardous housing. Mr. Pope reported that there is a model ordinance that could be adopted to cover such housing, and that he will secure a copy along with the General Statutes covering this. MrS. Hall and Mr. Blake will study these and make recommendations to the Board. Well Ordinance Update: The committee reported that different groups involved in water supply and wells have been asked for input regarding the revision of the well ordinance, however the committee has not begun the actual revision at this time. Final Draft - Sewage Disposal Ordinance: Copies have been distributed to Board of Health members for study and suggested changes. The final draft will be submitted as soon as all changes and corrections are made. Review and Update of Environmental Health Division Ordinances - Committee Appointments: Dr. Eakins appointed the following committees to study and up- date various ordinances: Mobile Home Regulations. Mr. Grathwol, Mr. Durham and Dr. Eakins Solid Waste: Dr. Franklin, Chairman, Mrs. Hall and Mr. Grathwol Fish, Shellfish Ordinance: Dr. Neal, Chairman, and Mr. Reeder The committees were charged with gathering data, studying the material and pre- senting recommendations at their earliest convenience. _...... 00875 There being no further business, Dr. Eakins moved the meeting be adjourned. Mr. Grathwol seconded the motion and it unanimously carried and the meeting was adjourned at 8 45 A.
