New Hanover County LEPC Minutes 9.9.2020New Hanover and Pender County LEPC Meeting Minutes for: September 9th, 2020 List of Attendees: Welcome and Introductions: Frank Meyer (Vice Chair) started the meeting at 11:00 A.M. thanking everyone in attendance to the third meeting held thus far for Calendar Year 2020. Frank requested that first time LEPC visitors introduce themselves to the group. Review and Approval of Minutes: Members were asked to review the last minutes of the meeting held on July 29, 2020. Mike Thomson-Red Cross- In previous meeting minutes it was mentioned that in a large event that the Red Cross would do very limited feeding and distribution of supplies… Now they are doing now for larger events. Mark Venters- Motion to approve; Kate Oelslager second. No opposition. Minutes approved. Membership announcements: none Mark Venters asked who is replacing Lisa Brown. Position is posted. David Howard is interim for now. Grant Information: Grant Info – Theresa requested an additional extension on the HMEP grant due to difficulty getting the Request for Proposal written. There haven’t been a lot of people who has taken on that task. She has it prepared and is in Lena’s hands for review and posting. It will probably not be posted until October. We have an extension until February. It may be necessary for us to recruit some LEPC members to assist with Tier II review if needed to help speed up the process. Tier II Grant – We still have $2,000 Tier II grant funds that have to be expended by December 31, 2020. If the committee knows a need that we can use these funds for please let me know your ideas or suggestions. No suggestions received. Hurricane Isaias AAR INVISTA learnings- no immediate issues; however, we had minor issues days after the storm. Just a reminder that the damage may not be immediately apparent. Shelters- Mike Thompson suggested that the county revisit their sheltering plan to ensure it is functional and have contingencies. as that no one took advantage of the out of county sheltering managed by the state. Current forecasts Frank shared the NWS forecast. Tropics are more active than in previous years. Be sure to reiterate with your staff that they use reliable weather sources. Frank shared Ready NHC with everyone. Have a plan, have a kit, and stay informed. Be prepared https://em.nhcgov.com/ready-nhc/community/ Committee updates Executive Committee to remind: Remind the committee that election time is in November. Please make recommendations and submit them to Linda Willis (Secretary) no later than November 1st. Linda will then reach out to the candidates to get their affirmation of the nomination. Remember there are guidelines regarding the Chair position. In order for a committee member to serve as Chair, they have to have served as a committee member for at least one year.
