2020 5 20 MAB minutes Board Members Present: David Ball Susan Barbee Gwen Brown Dennis Dixon Elizabeth Ferrell Kevin Maurer Stewart Moon Darin Penneys Donna Pope Florence Warren   Dan Goodwin, Sandra Alice Ray, and Woody White  Absent: Staff Present: Sheryl Mays, Barbi Baker, Joeli Banks, Darcie Cook, Simon Lashford, and Heather Yenco The Cape Fear Museum Advisory Board held its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 via ZOOM. The meeting was called to order by Dennis Dixon at 4:05 pm. Consideration of Absences: Dennis Dixon Goodwin, Ray, and White indicated their inability to attend this meeting and have been excused. Approval of Minutes: Dennis Dixon A motion to accept the January 15, 2020 minutes was made, seconded and approved without opposition. Chairman’s Report: Dennis Dixon Board Vacancies: There are two spots opening up at the end of this Fiscal Year. The application deadline is June 1st. Feasibility Study Update: The study went out to the Board for review before the meeting. Dixon highlighted that the State would be delighted to take control of the Museum if the Museum is prepared to take more financial responsibility for funds. The Study will go before the Commission on May 29th. The meeting is open for all to view. Associates Report: Sheryl Mays for Dan Goodwin The Associates have had a very good fundraising year. STEM-ILM which was scheduled for March 12th was cancelled and will not be rescheduled. Rather, the sponsors will be highlighted as their funds are used to do programming. Memberships have been suspended and will resume when the Museum reopens. Collections Committee Report: Heather Yenco The Collections Team is working to convert the c.16,000 photographs in the collection into a publicly searchable database. This will assist with the response time for reproduction requests. The funds for this project have come for the Associates. Museum Report: Sheryl Mays, Simon Lashford, Heather Yenco, Darcie Cook Mays shared tentative plan for the Museum to reopen to the public on May 26th from 10 am – 5 pm Monday through Saturday. General Admission will be reduced to $4 per visitor. Cleaning within the galleries will be increased and highly interactive galleries and touchpoints will be closed/removed. Masks will be encouraged, plexi-glass and social distancing reminders have been added, and hand sanitizer and cleaning wipes will be provided to the public. Yenco and Lashford provided an overview of the content and layout of the upcoming Hometown Teams exhibit. Cook and Lashford provided an overview of the updates that are coming to the Michael Jordan Discovery Gallery. These improvements are grant-funded. Old Business/New Business: Mays invited the Board to the Annual Meeting on June 17th. More information to follow. A motion was made, and seconded, to adjourn the meeting. With unanimous consent, the meeting ended at 5:04 pm. The next board meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 15th at 4:00 pm in Williston Auditorium at Cape Fear Museum.
