2020 7 15 MAB minutes Board Members Present: Susan Barbee Gwen Brown Dana Crater Ginger Davis Dennis Dixon Kevin Maurer Stewart Moon Eileen O’Malley Darin Penneys Donna Pope Florence Warren   Emily Bogan and Woody White  Absent: Staff Present: Sheryl Mays, Barbi Baker, Kate Baillon, and Joeli Banks The Cape Fear Museum Advisory Board held its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 via TEAMS. The meeting was called to order by Dennis Dixon at 4:05 pm. Consideration of Absences: Dennis Dixon Bogan and White indicated their inability to attend this meeting and have been excused. Board & Staff Introductions: Dennis Dixon New Board Members Crater, Davis, and O’Malley were given an opportunity to introduce themselves to the Board. Election: Dennis Dixon The following Slate of Officers was proposed by Dixon, seconded by Barbee, and unanimously approved. Donna Pope – Chair Stewart Moon – Vice-Chair Kevin Maurer - Secretary Approval of Minutes: Donna Pope A motion to accept the May 20, 2020 minutes was made by Dixon, seconded by Moon and approved without opposition. Chairman’s Report: Donna Pope Bylaw Change (in italics) was proposed by Pope, seconded by Moon, and approved without opposition: Regular Meetings.  Regular meetings of the board shall be held every other month beginning with July at the principal office of the Museum Advisory Board of Cape Fear Museum at 814 Market Street, Wilmington, North Carolina 28401. Members of the Board may participate by conference telephone or other electronic means at any Board or committee meeting at which appropriate equipment is available. Notice of time and place of the regular meetings shall be mailed to each advisor no later than seven (7) days before each meeting. State Feasibility Study Committee composed a letter to be sent to the County Commissioners in response to the State Feasibility Study. Pope encouraged individual Board Members to reach out to legislators and Commissioners about the Board opposition to the study. Barbee moved that the drafted letter be sent to the Board of Commissioners, Moon seconded and it was approved without opposition. Pope shared that she expects each Board Member to serve on a Committee this year. The list of Committees was distributed. Each member is to share their top two picks with Pope and Mays before the next meetings. Collections Report: Kevin Maurer The Collections Committees reviewed accessions to be submitted to the NHC Board of Commissioners for approval. Many of which were COVID-19 related. Because it was by committee, no motion was needed to accept the accessions. The acceptance was seconded and approved without opposition. Museum Report: Sheryl Mays The Museum remains temporarily closed due to Gov. Cooper’s order. Exhibit Update: The crates for Fighting for the Right to Fight have arrived and will be unpacked/installed next week. Hometown Teams has been installed. CFM Year in Review Jack Mills became the first Director Emeritus at the CFMA Annual Meeting. There are seven (7) new CFMA Board Members. During the shut-down, the Museum changed focus to virtual offering and interacted with 119,000 people virtually from March to June. A motion was made by Barbee, and seconded by Moon, to adjourn the meeting. With unanimous consent, the meeting ended at 4:44 pm.
