Jodi reported the following: Income $1,000.00 -general donation from Cape Fear Shamrocks $180.00 Plant an azalea Jessica Gray encouraged everyone to give something to Parks Conservancy so that it can be a 100% donating board. Janine went on to explain that is helpful when applying for grants when she can say 100% of the board gives. Board members can donate on the conservancy site at nhcparksconservancy.org. Staff Report. Tara did not have much to report and deferred to Janine to discuss Food Truck Rodeo. Janine mentioned one of the ways the board could help was to find sponsors for the upcoming Food Truck Rodeo. If every board member could get a sponsor, it would be very profitable for the board. There are different sponsor levels to choose from. If board members did not feel comfortable asking for money from a business that they had a relationship with, Janine could assist them with that. Food Truck Rodeo is scheduled for April 30, 2023 at Ogden Park. Tanya discussed Art in the Park project and several art pieces are already complete and she is planning to do 3 more. She is planning to do an Octopus at Ogden and a fish at Echo Farms. There is a rusty spot on the side of the restroom building at River Road Park that keeps reappearing. Instead of trying to get rid of the rusty spot, she will incorporate it into art. A social media campaign is planned to advertise the art project. The cost for the art project was $1500.00. NEW HANOVER COUNTY PARKS CONSERVANCY BOARD PAGE 3 REGULAR MEETING FEBRUARY 21, 2023 Cheryl is planning to send out a signup sheet in early March to have everything staffed. There are 28 spots for the rodeo and 38 trucks have signed up. She thinks ly have the Food Truck Rodeo once a year and focus on other fundraising opportunities. Janine thinks still good to rotate and have the next Food Truck Rodeo at Long Leaf but incorporate something like a pinecone pickup. The lady who runs the Wilmington Moms social media platform on Instagram is very interested in partnering with Parks on that kind of activity. Old Business/New Business. Jessica referred to a discussion at that last board meeting where a former wanted to do a big project. She reiterated the fact that this board is not a programming board, it is a fundraising board. She also stated that if there is something someone wants to do, she encourages them to take the lead on it. As for the FEMA properties, there is not a lot you can do with them besides rain gardens and educational-type things. To get schools out to do that is a lot of work upkeep but would have to be maintained by staff. Sstated to the board that FEMA prop off. They can be leased for $1.00. Neighbors were not interested in leasing them. Jodi mentioned that they purchased 48 trees for 3 properties, and they had a planting day. The trees were placed in the wet areas of those properties to soak up the water. Neighbors and some students came out to assist. Plantings help cut down on staff maintenance. Tanya made mention of yoga being held at Airlie, Smith Creek Park, and Long Leaf Park. It will be pushed out on social media. April 22, 2023 is the first day for a session at Airlie Gardens. Next Meeting. The next meeting will take place on April 18, 2023 at the Airlie Cottage. ADJOURNMENT Since there was no further business there was a motion to adjourn. MOTION: Mark Ihnat MOVED; SECONDED by Dana. Motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 6:12pm.
